Marlins English Language Test

course code: MARLINS last edit→ 30.10.2008.

Scope:

The ISF Marlins English Test is officially recognized by UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency as evidence of English knowledge in application for STCW flag state endorsement.
The test is applicable for all grades of officers and ratings (including catering and hotel personnel). Simple instruction and computer “help” advice allow the test to be accessible to those seafarers with little computer knowledge.

Objective:

Ship owners as a rule like to employ staffs who are competent in English. Without doubt English is the “lingua-franca” of the maritime world. Use of the ISF Marlins English Test allows ship operators to demonstrate that seafarers, of whatever nationality, have been assessed on their ability to communicate in English, a necessity that has been given additional emphasis by the ISM Code and the revised STCW Convention.

  • The test has on-screen support in ten languages
  • Questions are generally marine related
